Future Routes: Munich Area
Munich Airport is (I think) Europe’s ninth busiest airport, and is Lufthansa’s second-largest hub as well as a base for low-cost airlines Condor and Eurowings. I personally like connecting in Munich much more than doing so in Frankfurt (Lufthansa’s largest hub). I like Munich Airport because the airport is extremely modern and the opposite of run down, doesn’t have confusing terminal transfers and always seems straightforward, and feels very open, especially due to its plaza in between the two terminals. Munich Airport has some unique features such as jetbridges on the tarmac, multiple convention centers, and of course the central plaza which has plenty of shopping options and restaurants. The Airport also has some exciting future routes coming within the next months, which is why I decided to make my next future routes post about Munich.
Munich Airport consists of two terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 1 is the older terminal and is the western one. It serves most non-Star Alliance airlines. Terminal 1 consists of concourses A, B, C, and D, which really are part of the same terminal structure, but are just on different ends of it. Terminal 2 consists of concourses G, H, K, and L. Concourses G and H are really in the same building but are on different levels, so you can actually board at the same jet-bridge as a gate from the other concourse. Concourses K and L are on the recently built satellite terminal but are also on different levels there. I know it’s confusing, but Concourses H and L are used for non-Schengen flights, and concourses G and K are used for all Schengen flights.
