Analysis:
What to Avoid:
Boeing 737-700/Embraer E190 (Longer Routes): The 737-700s and Embraer E190s on Aeromexico aren’t that bad (they are even acceptable on regional flights). However, they feature no in-flight entertainment of any sorts in any travel class. Also, these aircraft are used on longer routes which can last over five hours. Now, for flights that long on a mainline carrier of North America, one would expect them to have some kind of in-flight entertainment on board, as all of their mainline competitors on such routes do. Longer routes from Mexico City that are on a 737-700 or Embraer E190 include the flights to Washington Dulles, Detroit, Salt Lake City, and New York JFK (but from Monterrey).
What to Fly:
Boeing 787-9 Business Class: The 787-9s without question feature the best business class hard product of any aircraft. On the 787-9s, business class features flatbed reverse herringbone seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, which is a world-class business class seat and is much better than the business class seats in a 2-2-2 configuration on the 787-8s. The 787-9s can be found on routes from Mexico City to Madrid, Amsterdam, Paris, New York JFK, and Buenos Aires.
Travel Classes:
Economy Class:
Economy Class on Aeromexico and Aeromexico Connect is in a 2-2 configuration on Embraer E170s/E190s, a 3-3 configuration on all Boeing 737s, and is in a 3-3-3 configuration on all Boeing 787s. Aeromexico features personal on-demand entertainment, power outlets, and wifi available to all passengers on all 737-800s, 737 MAXs, and 787s; it does not feature in-flight entertainment on all 737-700s and Embraer E170/E190s. Aeromexico serves meals to all economy class passengers on all flights longer than 3 hours and serves light snacks on flights less than that. Economy class passengers get one checked 55lb suitcase and one 22lb carry-on bag complimentary.
Aeromexico also features a section of the economy class that has extra legroom called AM Plus. Along with the AM Plus ticket price, one gets seats with 3-5 inches more legroom, SkyPriority at check-in, and priority boarding. It costs $20 on domestic flights and $30 on international flights to upgrade to AM Plus. Finally, it is available on all 737s and 787s.
Club Premier (Business Class):
On the Boeing 737, Aeromexico features recliner seats in a 2-2 configuration in Clase Premier (business class). In business class on the 787-8, Aeromexico features flat-bed seats in a 2-2-2 configuration. As stated earlier, on the 787-9, business class features flat-bed seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. Before the flight, passengers have access to the Aeromexico Salones Premier Lounge (or partnering SkyTeam lounges) which feature snacks, luxury seating, wifi, and showers (Mexico City only). Passengers also get SkyPriority check-in and boarding, food that is better than in economy, and better service than in economy. Business class passengers get one checked 66lb suitcase and one 39lb carry-on bag complimentary. Generally, business class costs around 4-5 times the price that economy costs. Also, if you are seated in economy, before your flight, you can opt to bid for an upgrade to Clase Premier, and the passengers who bid the highest price will get the upgrade.
