I had a stopover at Istanbul on one occasion and I had paid for a hotel in my reservation. I got to Istanbul and Turkish airlines staff wanted to deny me access to my hotel because I had to get a one day visa to go to the hotel. They feigned not understanding English to discourage me from seeking visa to reach my hotel and suggested that I sleep in the airport lounge.
