]]> By: Richard (A former Air Wisconsin employee at Dulles) /dulles-airport-history/#comment-41 Tue, 28 Apr 2020 18:49:27 +0000 /#comment-41 Independence Air was originally Atlantic Coast Airlines (ACA), which operated as both a United Express and Delta Connection regional carrier until the summer of 2004 when they began operations as Independence (which then faltered in 2006 as no one was willing to fly on them as they didn’t fly anywhere people wanted to go). Prior to their departure from the United Express family, they had flown United Express flights out of the A Concourse, but with the transition, United needed a new temporary concourse to replace the lost gates in A which ACA would be keeping. Hence they built the G Concourse, which began limited service via a bus link from the C Concourse in June of 2004 (as the interior of the building was still being finished at that time), before opening to the public in July of 2004. When Independence went under, United took over the gates in the A Concourse and the airport then demolished the G Concourse. But United hadn’t used the T gates in years by that point, which were used sparingly by US Airways Express at that time.
